To do this there are very few simple steps. First consider that your SharePoint server is in operation mode and you have created a custom list with some sample data. Now just follow the following steps:
- Open your InfoPath form and create a blank template.
- Form tools menu go to data connections and click the add button for creating a new data connection with external data source.
- Select the first radio button (create a data connection to:) and "receive data" radio button. Click next.
- Select "SharePoint library or list" radio button and click next.
- Copy and paste your SharePoint site URL where your custom list exists and click next.
- Now you can find out a list of list or library for the given SharePoint URL.
- Select your custom SharePoint list and click next.
- Now select the column name you want to populate on your InfoPath form and click next.
- Click next if you do not want to store this list data for using on offline mode.
- Now rename your data connection name and finish the wizard leaving the default checkbox value.
- Insert a dropdown control in your InfoPath form.
- Right click this dropdown list and go to "Drop-Down List Box Properties"
- Form data tab go to list box entries section and select "Lookup Values Form an External Data Source" and from Data source drop down list select the data source name you just named at step 10.
- You have completed all necessary steps to fetch data from SharePoint list to InfoPath form. From file menu preview it in form view and see the changes. J
